Alongside my final project and dissertation I was also required to complete a special study of my choosing. Our special study in final year of university was an independent exercise which allowed us to demonstrate that we were capable of learning and researching a new skill without any support from the university. Conveniently for me at the time I found a group of friends who decided to go ice skating every weekend as flat mates so I decided I was going to learn how to skate backwards. Another reason for my decision was because it tied in and related to my final project involving ice hockey. One of my friends flat mates played ice hockey for Sheffield Hallam so she taught me how to skate backwards and for two months every Saturday evening I would practice and document my progress. At the end of the project I created a 'How to' video using Adobe After Effects which I presented to my assessors at the end of the year.
